NEW and ongoing works / collections

Welcome friend!

I’m so glad you have taken the time to look in at my New / Ongoing works page. I hope you enjoy what you see – drop me a line with any queries you have; I’d love to hear from you.

My new series is a deeper dive into trees and the myths and legends surrounding them; it is an exciting one for me personally that I hope to translate into meaningful products for customers interested in the traditions of various ancient cultures and religions and how these link to the stories and beliefs about the trees that surrounded our ancestors.

TREE LORE:

Initially the series will be available as greeting cards (blank and/ or birthday) but each artwork is a standalone piece that can and perhaps should be combined to form collections or bespoke groups for customers – a coaster set perhaps, or magnets, keyrings or even a tea towel featuring between a half dozen to a dozen of the designs.

If you see a number of separate designs you love and have an idea for a gift for a loved one – just let me know via my contact form on the website and I will gladly work with you on a bespoke item/ items.

I am so excited to combine my love of painting, trees/ plants and delving into traditions, myths and folklore!

CROWS AT SUNSET:

A new watercolour available without mount/ frame. Inspired by the flat agricultural landscape of Cambridgeshire and the glorious sunrises we see in November. On these days the wind whips across the fields and brings together gatherings of these mystical birds – if only I could translate the caw-cawing into the images too!

My first paintings of these scenes turned out heavy-handed as I over worked the paints to produce the vibrant colours and I used feathers to create the crows which was great fun but didn’t quite work as hoped!

Being dissatisfied with the end result of a painting process spurs me on to put learnings into fresh practice until I achieve a result that works. Simply increasing the size of the piece worked; it helped to pull together more of a scene with many more crows distant and near and placed to draw the eye to the rising sun.

The original is in my website shop here – if you would like to see smaller prints or cards depicting this work then just ping me via my contact page.

RED:

Red came from a new look at a very old pencil drawing I made in the early 1990’s. I loved the direct gaze and strong features of the model. The painting is my imagined colour scheme and reds just found their way in :-)
