Artist Biography

Hello all!

My hope is to bring pleasure, re-connection and peace to my lovely audience through original art works that share joy-filled glimpses of our natural world and reflect a little of my wonderment at the other lifeforms around us.

I am committed to supporting species in crisis and protecting the environment and any products featuring my work are carefully sourced with the environment and ethical production methods uppermost in mind.

Supporting wildlife conservation is key and 10% of profit on all animal artwork sales are donated to my local wildlife park, supporting their involvement in rare species breeding programmes.

I am a self-taught, mixed media artist producing unique art pieces inspired by the wildlife and landscapes of my home area and from my travels, experiences and interests. My artistic path developed from an early age through pencil works of animals and plants and eventually injecting colour with oils to explore texture; particularly in my animal subjects.

In addition to canvas, I work on natural products such as slate and pebbles as the base for small works and commissions in acrylics and experiment readily via the use of natural items such as feathers, shells and seedheads to explore effects and textures with my paints and to enhance the unique finishes of the originals for clients.

The concept of ‘abandoned art’ is to provide pleasure for those who find it and I enjoy leaving pebble art around my local area to bring a smile to anyone who happens upon it.

On coming full circle back to myself…..

My inspiration stems from a love of the natural world as exoerienced in countryside of the North Hertfordshire/ Cambridgeshire borders where I was raised and continue to reside.

As a child I was encouraged to express myself through art and dance and to explore and appreciate being outside and around nature. What a wonderful childhood and debt of gratitude I owe my parents! Happy hours spent walking field edges, heathland and woods with our rambunctious boxer dogs and learning the cycle of life and the impact of our human footprint as we witnessed the births, death and struggles of the local wildlife and changes to the fragile environment.

My creative output has varied depending upon life circumstances - some years producing only occasional works, where a need to express and create had almost fought its way out of me. Coming full circle back to the level of creativity I expressed as a child is cathartic and energising. My process begins with a thought, an image, an article or sometimes the words of poets; ancient or current. Depending upon the final intention of the piece, I begin with sketch practice of elements or the whole and build from there over time; deciding on the medium when clear on the finished effect I seek. Working with natural materials such as stone and slate as well as traditional canvas enables me to produce unique but affordable art works.
